MIRPUR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has said that the people of Pakistan, unlike Turkey, will ‘celebrate’ if its military takes over.
He made these remarks while addressing an election rally here in Azad Jammu Kashmir as part of his campaign for the Kashmiri elections taking place on Thursday. The PTI chairman said that the people would ‘celebrate’ and ‘distribute sweets’ if the military takes over, unlike what happened in Turkey.
In Pakistan, he said that democracy was threatened by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s monarchy, not military. He said that the Turkish masses took to the roads and streets against the attempted coup because their president served his people.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan served his people and paid off Turkey’s debts and he constructed hospitals and that was why the people supported him against the military, Imran said. He also criticised Prime Minister Nawaz for what he believe ‘staying silent’ over the Panama Papers allegations.
“We demand Nawaz Sharif to tell us from where did he get the money to have offshore assets, but he does not reply,” he said. “Sure, do not reply. Neither did Saddam (Hussain) answer his people nor (Moamar) Qaddafi,” he said while referring to slain leaders of Iraq and Libya respectively whose rules were overthrown in foreign-sponsored brutal ‘civil’ war.
The PTI chairman also urged the people of Azad Jammu Kashmir to vote for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. He said that Pakistan should be strengthened in order to pressurise India in favour of the freedom of the disputed state.
