CHITRAL: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) faced shortages of resources due to the discriminatory attitude of federal government and Rs 27 billion decrease in receipts from the Centre.
He said this during his visit to the flood affected infrastructure in the district. The PTI chief is on a two-day visit to Chitral during which he would visit various projects in the district.
Imran was being briefed by the Chitral deputy commissioner about the damage that flood and earthquake had caused in the district. “KPK faces funds’ shortage after cuts in the receipts from the federal government. The provincial government is not in a position to rehabilitate the flood-damaged infrastructure in Chitral,” he said.
He added that the provincial government had decided to contact donor agencies and in this connection a donors’ conference would be convened in Islamabad soon. He said that the rehabilitation of the flood-affected infrastructure in Chitral required a hefty amount of Rs 16 billion, but the provincial government lacked the resources to arrange the money.
He said that the KPK government was already making efforts to carry out the rehabilitation activities within its own resources. Regarding the funding of the federal governments for the construction of three roads in Chitral, Imran said that if Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had fulfilled his commitments, the fate of the country would have changed.
Earlier, the district mayor Maghfirat Shah, deputy commissioner Osama Ahmad Warraich and MPA Saleem Khan had briefed Imran on the damages caused to the infrastructure by the floods and the sufferings of the people.
The PTI chief was told that the monsoon had started and floods have rendered several families in Orsun, Ashirait, Brep and other areas of the district homeless while roads and bridges were also damaged.
